Assignment 3
During this assignment, I've kept in mind the
pros and cons of using each site to create my own blog. I used the sites http://www.blogger.com , http://wordpress.com/ ,
and http://learnerblogs.org/ .
Here are the pros and cons of each blog:
Blogger
Pros:
- Very quick and easy to set up.
-User friendly
-Easy to see who is reading your blog and the
activity of your blog.
-Organized layout makes everything easy to access
-Large variety of widgets
Cons:
-The homepage can be a bit scattered with useless
information
-Limited options for privacy settings
Wordpress
Pros:
-Variety of themes to use
-Widgets are easy to add
-Shows what’s happening right now (comments,
discussions, other blogs activity, etc.)
-Mobile set-up is available
Cons:
- Cluttered side menu
-Limited options for privacy settings
- Irrelevant Information all over dashboard
EduBlogs
Pros:
- Shows how much storage is available
- Easy to post different kinds of links and media from the
main menu
- Background images add style and personality
- Shows recent comments on your blogs
- Made to connect teachers and students; not to be used
professionally
Cons:
- Cluttered dashboard; makes it hard to find your own
profile
- Constant tips pop up on different menus
- Very similar to Wordpress; seems like a knock off
- Not very professional
Overall
Experience
Each
site was easy to set up, but once I was done the set up, Blogger was the only
site that gave me instructions on how to get started, which helped guide me to
get started. Their was even a video on how I can customize my blog. If students
were to set up a bog, Edublogs would be the best site to use because there are
lots of privacy settings, it is made for educational purposes, and is
relatively easy to set up. The experience was very enjoyable, but there are
limited ways to share your personality through the appearance of the blog. For
a professional use however, I would use Blogger because it was convenient to
find all the settings and preferences in one place without crowding
information. You could show your personality through the themes and visual
aids.
Overall,
setting up my blog was easy on all the sites, but finding the settings and
preferences that I wanted to find were more difficult to find and manipulate on
Edublogs and Wordpress. Blogger let me personalize my blog the most creatively,
and was easy to navigate through the site.
